Rituals, cleansing & care

Rituals. Theyare a wonderful way to bring a sense of sacredness to your Tarot, Oracle, or divination practice. As you continue on your Hermit journey, learning, exploring, and discovering new ways of thinking, being, and connecting to the Divine, you may enjoy a ritual or two to enhance your divination practice. In time you see how special the gift of the connection is, and you bring the ceremony to show respect.

I like to meditate before reading, even if it is just for 5-10 minutes. It’s like clearing space in your upper chakras to receive downloads and be more connected to your intuition. Sometimes the meditation is crowded, unclear, and filled with thoughts. It is still worth it. The divine speaks to us through our intelligence and we are cleaning out our brain space to receive, an excellent way to make this a practice for every time you sit with your cards. Of course, there are times you want a quick one-card answer in a hurry, we can be excused in that scenario.

Another one is to recite a short prayer or a message to set your intention to directly connect with the higher power, either out loud or in your mind. The intention can be to say thanks in advance or to ask for messages that you can easily comprehend so you are giving yourself and others the correct guidance. On the closing say a quick thanks to your spirit guides for their help. We must acknowledge the higher powers who always support us and give us the messages for our benefit.

Personally, I do all the above and light a candle or incense stick while I do my readings whether for myself or someone else. Having an assigned space to read your Oracle cards really helps set an atmosphere. I do it on a table where I have my alter as well. But there was a time when I used to spread a nice cloth on my dining table and do the readings. So it’s whatever works for you, as long as you bring a sense of sacredness from your heart to your divination practice.

Storage. The Oracle of the Gods and Goddesses deck is meant to be a home to the cosmic deities. Treating the cards and box with the utmost respect is essential. Store it at your altar, or a special place assigned for such items, as the Gods reside within them. Showing a sense of respect is important whether you are a believer in Sanatan dharma or not.

Cleansing. There are a few ways to clean your cards of any stale energies or reenergize their essence, especially ebfore reading for a new person. 1. Himalayan salt has cleaning properties. You can get a salt lamp and place it in the room. 2. Crystals, there are so many kinds with so many wonderful properties used for cleaning your cards, make sure you clean them too under running tap water or placing them near the window on a full moon. I personally like the Selenite crystal, Satin Spar, Clear Quartz, Lapiz lazuli and Rose Quartz 3. Knock three times with your knuckles on the deck before a reading 4. Smudging, I love using a palo santo stick or a sage bundle to to cleanse my home regularly and my alter. I do a quick palo santo smudging right before I do a reading for my alter and decks being used as well.
